Mittens...

by Charles Fee
(New York)

I had a tuxedo kitty once. She came to us from somewhere in the neighborhood. I guess she liked the food here better.

I have to dispute your intelligence claim a bit. Mitties was dumber than a box of rocks. She'd continue to pester our other cat even after being swatted who knows how many times and insist upon being in our rather small kitchen when everyone else was out there too, winding up getting stepped on (which nobody wanted to do, for the record). She more than made up for that by being very lovable. She loved to cuddle and loved being the center of attention. In the winter, anyone laying down on the couch would have an instant cat-shaped purring scarf.

Unfortunately, she got very sick three years ago - with what we don't know - and is no longer with us.

Mittens
by: Claudia - Admin

Hi Charles,

Sorry to hear that Mittens is no longer with you. From what you describe I gather that she was a very loving cat.

When it comes to the intelligence of tuxedo cats (and cats in general), I must agree that there are exceptions to the rule. However, I must say that Mittens was very smart in her own way. She knew how to be the center of attention :)

Thanks for sharing.

lovable mittens
by: yvonne

Hello Charles,

I have read that Tuxedo cats are loyal and very loving. I am having trouble choosing a solid white kitten or a tuxedo kitten. I have a solid white female cat I call Jenibelle. She is on this website if you would like to read on her. Anyway, my Jenibelle needs a friend.Adopting a new kitten is complicated. It's hard to chose one when they are all too cute. But,I read Tuxedo cats are smart, friendly, loyal, and sometimes can be very vocal. They also love to cuddle like your Mittie. I really don't think she was pestering at all.., she had so much love she just wanted to spread it around.lol:-) Mittie was some gal and she was unique in her own way. I laughed when I read how she could turn into a cat shaped purring scarf.LOL!! Thanks for sharing your story.

MITTENS

I enjoyed your story. Sometimes the dimmer bulbs in the pack become the most lovable. Kind of like the old character Gracie. You have to hug them and love them. I have a white cat that I have posted in this website, but I need to share my tuxedo cat's story. He is a lot like yours in personality, but is definitely a smart guy. Thanks for sharing. I know she will always have a special place in the hearts of those who she touched.
