Luna with her favorite toy!

Luna with her favorite toy!

A little over 15 mos ago, we rescued a little white kitten that someone had abandoned on the side of a road in a cardboard box. It was during a full moon (hence the name we chose). The vet said she was approx. 5 wks old when we got her (Sept. 30). Her eyes were green when she was a baby, but gradually turned a golden color as she got bigger. She is completely deaf, and we keep her indoors at all times for her own safety. She is sweet mostly, but has a tendency to randomly go into a "stalking" mode and attack our hands/arms. :/ Like, 'draw blood' attack. It has lessened a bit as she has gotten older, but she still does it occasionally, usually at night when we are settling in to sleep or early morning. She has slept with us since we first got her. We keep her shut in our room when we are sleeping or gone, as she is prone to mischief when left to her own devices. She LOVES to play fetch with us...of all the cute little kitty toys we get her, her favorite toy of all?...a drinking straw! lol! She is very alert, smart, playful, and one minute loves to cuddle, and the next minute is running and hiding from us. She has a custom made scratching post, but prefers my sofas...Can't seem to break her of THAT little habit. She refuses to be socialized with any other animals (dogs or other cats), and hisses violently at any other animal that comes near. We tried right away when we got her, thinking that the younger she was, the easier it would be...alas, not so, much to the dismay of my in-laws Bischon who really just wants to be friends and love on her. Not happenin'.

All in all...we spoil her mercilessly, and love her completely...she has brought so much love and joy into our home. She is our sweet little princess. If anyone can identify her specific breed, we would love to know.

P.S. to my comment: My white cat LOVES to play with straws too. But her all-time #1 favorite toy is the ring from a gallon sized jug of milk. She will play with one for long stretches of time and has become quite an artist with it -- she will swirl it around on her paw, etc. And while playing with a milk ring, she will talk excitedly the entire time as well.

Your story of Luna Love sounds familiar to me too! I got the sudden attacks for years after adopting my Starbaby (see her story below) -- now they come only rarely but she isn't totally broken from them. It took her many years to let her guard down after her shelter experiences and she is only now becoming affectionate toward me and only now daring to lay close to me. Her new favorite place to lay is behind my head on the back of my recliner. She will "groom" my hair and then settle down to groom herself and nap -- she will often purr softly and it's the greatest sound in the world!

You guys are a blessing!Isn't funny how we forget that animals may have handicaps like we do?I have never had a cat yet with a disability, but when I do I will remember LUNA & your advice of trying to integrate them when they are young. So sad people abandon these animals!! My two spoiled cats don't know how lucky they are!!

Great picture!What a pretty kitty!

I am so excited to read your story. First, let me say it is unusual for the white kitties with yellow/green eyes to be deaf and common for the kitties with blue eyes. You can see Merlin's story on this blog. I need to update it as he is quite large and panther-like now. But I digress; we recently adopted a kitten from the shelter that had been there for 4 months. My husband and daughter knew I have always wanted a white, blue-eyed cat, so they surprised me with her. When I got home and went to find her, she was asleep on a bed. I learned immediately she is completely deaf. My husband thought I would be upset and offered to take her right back. I nixed that immediately, knowing once they learned she was deaf, she would be put to sleep. He name is Pandora, but we call her our little Helen Keller. She has no boundaries. She doesn't hear things crashing from her leaps and bounds, so never learns to be graceful. We were told she is only 6 months old, and looks it. The vet later told us she is full grown and will never be more than 6 or 7 pounds. We get the random attacks too. I could go on and on, but I will get her picture and story added soon. She had ear mites and ring worm and looks like a little clown right now with her missing hair. The meds are helping, and when she is her beautiful self, as she will be soon, I will post about her. I hope to read more about your experiences with Luna Love. They sound very familiar.
