Kitty

by Dora Lee Stallard
(Indianapolis, In.)

We have a 19 year old tuxedo named Kitty. My husband has raised this cat from the time he was 8 weeks old. He has always been extremely affectionate and vocal. He not only lets us know when he's hungry, but he also lets us know what he wants to eat. We will ask him if he wants tuna, crunchy, milk etc and when we mention the right food he will nudge us. He has also managed to potty train himself and has his own bathroom! He has been a joy in our life! He is now suffering from renal failure, We are taking one day at a time and giving him all the love and attention we can. He is fighting with all he has. He is still eating and drinking good and is actually gaining weight. He will always be in our hearts and we are grateful to be blessed with such a wonderful companion!

KITTY
by: Anonymous

Dear Anonymous,

Thank you so much for your compassion and prayers!
I agree with you. We are watching him closely and will not let him suffer. When we first took him to the emergency clinic we prayed for healing. It's at that time I broke down and realized that was not going to happen. I then praised God for giving Kitty to us and for 19 years. Having him home now is giving us a chance to say goodbye and just love on him as much as we can. It is not an easy thing to go through, but we keep reminding ourselves that all living creatures belong to God!
God bless you for your love and compassion!!

KITTY

Hi Ken,

Thank you for your kind words. I am so sorry that you lost your cat. We have been feeding him salmon minced with clam juice. I even had some fresh mackerel shipped to fix for him and he is eating that as well. I like the idea of salmon oil. I am monitoring his fluid intake and his bathroom breaks. I am now dealing with constipation. This is my first experience with renal failure and I just want to do all that I can to help him feel as comfortable as possible. Do you have a cat now?

I will pray for your kitty
by: Anonymous

I wish there was something I could say to make you feel better, but I know that's impossible. I had my tom cat until he was 23. He was sick for quite a while. He had lost his vision, hearing, and most of his teeth. He got bladder stones 3 times. He got diabetes. I was selfish and kept him around because I loved him so much. Finally at the end he had a cerebral problem and was in horrible pain. That's when I knew it was time to let go. Please don't let your kitty stay if he's in pain. I will pray for him and you. God bless.

Tuxedo Cat - Renal Failure
by: Ken

My Fatso passed away last Nov from kidney failure. He was 21 or 20 yrs old at the time. Prior to that I was giving him salmon oil via a dropper every day and had him on special diet low in protein. Toward the end, I had him injected with saline solution twice a week. You can do it your self. As you may know, cats in that condition pee pee pee and drink drink drink but the fluid doesn't stay in the body. My heart goes out to you two. I still miss him; he just made me laugh too many times. For a long time after his passing, I could not bring myself to vacuum the house because his hairs would be gone. I just remembered today how he used to sleep with his one paw over his eyes.
