Fatso - My Friend - I Miss You Desperately

by Ken
(Everett, Wa)

Fatso, a Tuxedo Cat from long line of aristocrats, passed away one week ago. We had been together for 17 yrs and went from Everett, Wa to, Japan, Israel, Denmark, then to Broken Arrow OK then back to Everett, Wa. I still cannot look at his photos without crying. Very early in our association, he was reclining on the living room sofa and busily grooming himself. I was sitting on the floor and my head was in line with his rear feet which were close to my face. I turned my face and noisily sniffed his left rear foot. His reaction was instantaneous: keeping his same reclined position, he swung his front paw against my face. My glasses went flying across the room. Then, he just stared at me. It was a steady even gaze with no hint of apology. He seemed to say: you clumsy uncouth peasant creature, how dare you sniff my feet without permission. This is not a done thing with us, cats. I hope we can meet again.

Cried and laughed
by: Anonymous

I cried for your loss, as well for my loss, as you not only described Fatso but my cat, Frank, too. They both were (are) Kings! I lol how your cat knocked your glasses off, then gave you THAT stare. I know the STARE; seen it thousands of times in my 14 years with my bff Frank. Fatso has the stare in the pic posted here. Thank you so much for posted your story and the pic of Fatso. I would also give up most anything to see my little man again. And, I also called Frank Fatso, and many other nicks. And, yes, I would pay for it. lol

Reply to Mittens
by: Ken

Thank you very much for your response and comment. I am not very religious. But 3 night after Fatso left me. I had an experience. The night was very windy. I woke up hearing the sound of the bedroom door banging just like what he did in the morning when I was late with his breakfast. I had goose bumps and I opened the door and I called for him. He was not there. I'd like to think he came home, he found me. I would give several years of what is left of my life to see him looking at me with his snooty superior look of a King looking at a peasant. A prayer for Bast:
"Beloved Bast, mistress of happiness and bounty, twin of the Sun God, slay the evil that afflicts our minds as you slew the serpent Apep. With your graceful stealth anticipate the moves of all who perpetrate cruelties and stay their hands against the children of light. Grant us the joy of song and dance, and ever watch over us in the lonely places in which we must walk."

Thanks.

Life enriching
by: Sandy

You are right; your cat looks so much like my Mittens. I completely understand your grief! I have almost lost Mittens twice with the heartworms & asthma. The last time she was put immediately into the oxygen cubicle & stayed for 2 nites. It was harder on me than her as she did not understand but knew she could not breathe. She is a crucial part of my life along with our other cat Shadow (our roamer). When it's rainy like today she wheezes & fusses at me for being inside. She loves catching lizards & when done playing eats most of them. She lives as normal a life as possible for now & we love her to death. Your Fatso had a great life with you so be sad no longer! I saved my cat & try to always remember that. It is now time for you to save another cat & give it a good life! I got my Shadow from the vet where someone did not want her. I suggest doing that or going to the humane society and rescuing one. Everyone tends to take dogs but most push the cats to the side. This will give you a new friend while still remembering Fatso.

A bette version of Rainbow Bridge
by: Anonymous

The Rainbow Bridge
inspired by a Norse legend

By the edge of a woods, at the foot of a hill,

Is a lush, green meadow where time stands still.

Where the friends of man and woman do run,

When their time on earth is over and done.

For here, between this world and the next,

Is a place where each beloved creature finds rest.

On this golden land, they wait and they play,

Till the Rainbow Bridge they cross over one day.

No more do they suffer, in pain or in sadness,

For here they are whole, their lives filled with gladness.

Their limbs are restored, their health renewed,

Their bodies have healed, with strength imbued.

They romp through the grass, without even a care,

Until one day they start, and sniff at the air.

All ears prick forward, eyes dart front and back,

Then all of a sudden, one breaks from the pack.

For just at that instant, their eyes have met;

Together again, both person and pet.

So they run to each other, these friends from long past,

The time of their parting is over at last.

The sadness they felt while they were apart,

Has turned into joy once more in each heart.

They embrace with a love that will last forever,

And then, side-by-side, they cross over… together.

so very sorry

I believe that our beloved pets go to heaven. I have a bunch waiting there for me. You will be with Fatso again.

Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends, so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food and water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigour; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing: they miss someone very special to them who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. The bright eyes are intent; the eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to break away from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together.

Fatso - My follow up
by: Anonymous

I knew he was dying; I desperately hoped the Vet would be able to make him survive for the next 6 months. I was selfish. I would have exchanged part of my life span to have him with me. I had spent time in Vietnam as a civilian contractor and recently I was at the Reno Air show when the Mustang augured into the ground 100 ft from me and saw body parts but I never thought nor dreamed I would be affected as I am now. I just want to know: Fatso are you OK, are you happy? Please let me know. You must remember to come and get me when my time comes. I can't bring myself to vacuum the house because I don't want to lose any of your hair. Imagine that. Fatso, you must come to me in my dreams. I promise, I'll give you raw chicken meat. I promise.

Fatso
by: Claudia - Admin

Hi Ken,

My thoughts are with you during this difficult time. I know how hard it is to lose a beloved companion. I lost my Mia a year ago and I still miss her every day. Remembering happy times helps a lot.

Fatso was a handsome cat. You were so lucky to have shared your life with him. Thank you for sharing his picture.
